If you want to learn the purpose of creating music videos, I believe that there are 4 major purposes that you should be aware of.
1. It serves as a short filmed performance of a pre-recorded song.
For example “Make A Move” by Icon For Hire is a music video in which the artist is lip-syncing to a pre-recorded song along with a narrative/performance music video.
2. It can serve as a visual representation of the musical piece
For example “Last Friday Night” by Katy Perry is a music video which portrays a visual imagery of the lyrics being sung.
3. It also serves as a marketing tool that is used to promote the sales of a music record
4. it is a device that is used to create a "Star" or promote an existing/new image of the singer. In every music video, the star is the most important feature as everything leads up to the one and sole centre - the Start - who provides several signs and symbols. In almost every music video, the centre of everything is the star, with everything seemingly revolving around him/her.
